Sheih on Sheih: Recipe for Homemade Bomb

29 01 2008
During my time in Sekolah Menengah Teknik Kuala Lumpur, we were taught lots of nonsense by our senior and one of it were how to make a homemade bomb.

It was in Ramadan 1986 when Mr. Pub® drag me to one corner and gave me a list of items that we need to buy, steal from the science’s lab and worked that need to be conducted in the Mechanical Workshop.

It was a weird tradition of Teknik KL to blast their neighbour, SMS Selangor with homemade bombs. But loyal to this tradition, proud TIKL seniors will pass the recipe to their junior.

Nevertheless, as a measure of precaution, not a single person knew the procedure from A to Z. My part was to arrange for few juniors to joint the committee. Then I was to unlock the backdoor to the Mechanical Workshop during our workshop class so our ‘engineer’ can enter it at night to cook the recipe for disaster.

End of Ramadan 1986, as we were walking back from surau for our moray session, were we jolted by the blast from the bomb that was planted in the ground floor toilet of the SMS Selangor’s hostel. Whoever plant it, sure knew very well to calculate the timer. The timer was made from mosquito’s coil with the end wrap by a magnesium strip we got it from the lab.

The blast, I was told, is strong enough to even cause slight tremor in Sekolah Alam Shah. Later, Parakau®, the godfather of Alam Shah told me that even he was awaken from his sleep under the bed in his hostel. He always slept under the bed to avoid being caught because he did not attend the terawih session.

All hell broke loose that night when SMS Selangor’s students retaliate by firing ‘mercun kelawar’ towards us as we were chasing their members who crossed over to our side and enter Sekolah Teknik’s female hostel as an act of revenge.

As far as I remember, nobody got caught that night and nobody did the next day when the police came to do the investigation.

What do we gain from that? I asked myself. We were lucky that the bomb did not explode during one of the processes, which would definitely blast our fingers away or even took our life.

We were young, wild and free. But is that a license to be foolish.

Few days ago, I asked bro Sallahuddin Ayub, the PAS Youth Chief and my MP. Are you planning any more demonstration? The answer that I gained from the horse mouth made me feel that my mutton is tastier that discussing about the politics. So we end up killing our self with the mutton Briyani in order to kill the conversation.

Let me continue to be pessimistic as some opposition supporters might claim. Pessimist as I am, let me ask, what do the oppositions gain from,

Street demonstrations and protests.

Insulting Pak Lah because his wife, Jeanne Danker did not wear tudung.

Playing with element of hatred.

Prior to what I did now, I was always part of the winning team came every election. No, I did not campaign for BN neither do I did anything to persuade people to campaign for BN.

But in the matter of The Middle Class and Urban Malaysians versus the Barisan Nasional, oppositions always helped the Barisan Nasional to win the election. The oppositions helped to convince these group of voters to swing their votes towards the Barisan Nasional because of the issues and the style they played their issues.

The oppositions need to change their style. They are not going to win extra votes by attacking me. Neither is they going to win extra votes by taking the streets in protest, insulting Jeanne Danker in their speeches and talking about hatred.

I may not speak on behalf of the majority of the voters, but I trust, the voters that determined the winner shared my argument.

How much more votes did the oppositions gain by taking the streets? How much more votes did the oppositions gain when a group of young Malaysian sent pillows to Prime Minister? How much votes did the oppositions gain by killing Tun Mahathir with the Lingam Video? How much votes did the oppositions gain by slaying Jeanne Danker?

Or, we may want to think, how much votes did we lose to Barisan Nasional every time we did all the above?

Time and again, we find the oppositions uninspiring, unimaginative and even despicable at times.

While you are arrogantly screaming at us to vote for change, we are now politely begging you to look at yourself and stop thinking that you are better than Barisan Nasional just because you are not in power to prove that you are better.

We are now telling you nicely, for many elections, we have voted for Barisan Nasional because you have persuaded us to do so by doing what you are doing now, taking the streets in protest, demonstrations, insulting people, cheap rhetoric, putting candidates that are so uninspiring, fanaticism, extremism, militarism and perhaps, too conventional. Every action has positive and negative reactions; we both knew that long ago.

Before you shoot me this time around, just remember this, I have the vote that shy you for as many election as we can remember and I am not alone.

Shieh on Sheih: Tale of a Suicide Bomber

23 01 2008

I tried my best not to talk politics. Nevertheless, I knew certain kicks that I have taken actually did have certain effects. After some damage control activities over the weekend and some sarcasm early in the week, I have decided to just move on.

Parliament will be dissolved on the 13th February 2008. Election will be held on one of the Sunday in March before PM leaves for OIC meeting. The election will see a tough fight in Kelantan but whichever parties that win, will win big this time. My prediction in Kelantan shall be 30-15 either way. It can be PAS, it can be BN.

Rumours has it, that Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah will be asked to not just stand in Parliament Gua Musang but also the State seat in Kota Lama. This controversial decision by Khairy and his father in laws is considered by Najib as another way of putting pressure on his loyalty towards Pak Lah.

Some said, Ku Li and Khairy had cut a deal. While keeping Ku Li in Parliament will give him hope to take another chance at some of the important position in UMNO, which this time around will be taking on Najib as Deputy President of UMNO, putting Ku Li in State is truly obscene.

In an attempt to win Kelantan at what ever cost, Pak Lah knew that Ku Li could deliver. Ku  Li will be instructed to stand in Kota Lama, and this will be against Dato’ Anuar Tan. Will Ku Li take the offer? I believe he will not. But again, the decision is entirely his.

In another desperate attempt to wrestle Kelantan from PAS, Pak Lah is almost certain going to remove Annuar Musa from UMNO Kelantan. Annuar, despite his hardworking and persona, is considered as liability for UMNO Kelantan. My question is Pak Lah ready to repeat the same monumental failure of judgement which cost him Kelantan in 2004 when he did to Ibrahim Ali what he about to do to Annuar Musa?

At the end of the day, Pak Lah will keep almost all of the old guards because, although he wants changes, he is not a reformist. Mahathir is actually a true reformist. We have silent him. In our obsession to get rid of Pak Lah, we just grab everything that we perceived as valuable tools, one of them is The VK Lingam’s Video.

At the end of the day, Pak Lah will say, it looks like Mahathir and it sounds like Mahathir. Only now, we realise the whole personal vendetta behind the reason why Anwar brought this video out. Pak Lah will come out as champion of the judiciary system.

We have seen two glaring error in recent months which going to cost us the election. One is the VK Lingam’s Video and second is the HINDRAF’s case. Both turns out to be a good PR for Pak Lah. Both had been this big only because of one man.

And if we continuously going to take the streets in protest, trust me, we only are going to make it harder for the silent majority to respects us.

Just ask those UMNO guys, they are so used of winning. They know we are stepping onto our own booby traps.

My hope for PRU 12 is PAS to retain Kelantan with bigger majority.

My predictions for PRU12 are,

BN retained all the states including Terengganu and Penang.

PKR will lose all the seats they contest.

A truly good election for DAP.

Oppositions gather more votes compared to previous election but no significant increase in Parliamentary seats or state seats.

Overall, for the people and all the blog readers, this is going to be the most frustrating election.

However, it is a blessing in disguise. Another five years under Pak Lah’s leadership, will prove to be heart breaking for all Malaysians. Pak Lah’s strength within UMNO will depends on who rules Kelantan after the election. Nevertheless, we are going to see significant changes in the opposition’s front.

Did I just say another 5 years under Pak Lah?

To think of it, it is not too late for all of us to do something. Let us not put our hope in the hands of the politicians, but put the politician’s hopes in our hands. With the power of the people, nothing is impossible.

We can start by forcing the opposition parties to play our game instead. Let us teach and prepare them for what we actually want and not to listen to them mumbling about what they think we want.

The power is in the hand of the people.

Politicians are like diapers, they need to be change frequently – Tom Dobbs “Man of The Year”.

Sheih on Sheih: Learning to be Amongst Loser

21 01 2008

It had been a while since I last wrote about myself, sharing my feelings and emotions. It had been a while since I took pleasure in the honesty of my readers, commenting on nothing else but themselves, remembering our moments and making fun about life and how naive we are.

It had been a while since I stood among the loser and celebrated the lost. However, if I remember it well, losing can sometimes taste as sweet as the glory of being a winner. That is how it taste back then, somewhere in August 1992.

Three weeks after being appointed as Yang DiPertua Desasiswa Fajar Damai, I tendered my resignation to stand for the Student Council Election or Pilihanraya Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar USM as it was called back then.

The Student Committee of Desasiswa Fajar Damai called an emergency meeting to persuade me against resigning. A representative from Desa Fajar, a 2nd Lieutenant in The ROTU stood and preached for almost 30 minutes and laid down 2 option for me, if I insisted in participating in the student election.

Option number one, is for me to retract my resignation letter and put on hold my intention to stand for the student election until next year, where they promised to make sure I will get solid votes from the Desasiswa

Option number two, they wanted me to retract my resignation letter and continued to stand for the student election and my position at the Desasiswa will only be subject of discussion after the student election. Which mean, if I lose the election, I shall continue serving the Desasiswa.

It was almost midnight, when I finally got my chance to thank them for their concerned. Without trying to be apologetic, I rejected both options because it is against what I believe in.

First of all, if I postponed my intention till the coming year, it shall mean that I will going to be in my final year, where else I shall not be around after that to be accountable for all the criticism towards the policies that I may be part of during my term in the council. Student council is not a one-nightstand affair where you can just wham-bang and say thank-you-mam.

Second, it is not that I did not want to serve the Desasiswa, but I should not do what I believed others shouldn’t.

The next day, accompanied by only two others, I sent my nomination paper. A day before, it was decided that I will stand at The Humanities Constituency. Prior discussion has decided that School of Communication will send 3 candidates and I am included as one of it. The Humanities Constituency has 3 seats. The chance for all three candidates from School of Communication to win is almost certain. Any extra candidates from School of Communication will surely split the votes and spell disaster for all.

On the day of nomination, one fella by the name of Kamarul met me and informed about his intention to be the fourth candidates from School of Communication. Kam Chong and Freed advised Kamarul to stand for the General Constituency instead. Kamarul came to me and persuaded me instead to take my challenge in the General Constituency.

Amongst the four of us, only Kam Chong has the chance to win in the General Constituency. He has the fund and the machinery as all Chinese candidates are fully finance by certain parties and their campaign are managed by the Persatuan Bahasa Tionghua.

The General Constituency consisted of all the school in the main campus, plus the medical school in the Kubang Kerian campus and the engineering school in the Tronoh campus. Persatuan Bahasa Tionghua will limit their candidates as the only chance for them to win there is by not splitting the non-Malay votes.

The Malays candidates are divided into 3 groups, the Pro UMNO group, the Persatuan Mahasiswa Islam group, which was known to be funded by the opposition and the IRC. None of it is where Kamarul, Freed and me belong.

Staring at the possibility that none of us will gather enough votes to win even one of the three seats, one of us will have to make a monumental and perhaps suicidal decision. It was then decided, based on track record, achievement and experience, that person shall be me.

It was death from the moment I submitted my nomination paper. The number of Malay candidates is unusually small compared to previous year. It seems that, the night before, the Pro UMNO machinery had cut a deal with IRC and Persatuan Pelajar Tionghua. All the three groups agreed to take the Persatuan Mahasiswa Islam’s candidate head on. Six versus six. Only to have two morons, both from School of Communication and both did not fit into any of the group. One is a guy name Ridwan from Johore and the next, is me. Until today, I did not know how Ridwan came into the picture.

With such a limited fund, I decided to forget all about Kubang Kerian and Tronoh and focus solely in the main campus. It shall be miracle if I made it. Kubang Kerian and Tronoh are useless after all. Most of the Science faculties are good for nothing because most of the Malay students came from the Matriculation Programme, which they are already tuned by PAS under their cadre scheme.

My only hopes are the Arts streams as most of them came from form six. Thinking of it today, I did a Lone Ranger back then, riding only on a friend from Pasir Mas, named Adnan an ardent follower of Ibrahim Ali. Adnan left me after Ibrahim Ali left Semangat 46 but came to offer his support based of the Kelantanese Brotherhood.

Adnan did all the campaign while I am hooked up on my part-time work as Research Assistant at the School of Communication. As a research assistant, my duty was to record all those Olympic events on RTM 1, RTM 2 and TV3. The title of the research is, Sukan Olimpik dan Televisyen Malaysia: Satu Pengalaman Barcelona.

Because of the time zone, my duty started at 6pm and finished at 6am the next day. Due to that, I am hardly seen during the campaign, rumours spreading like wild fires that I went to Barcelona for the research.

Barcelona ended few days before the Election Day. I knew then I am trailing badly but I managed to squeeze some ground during the debates. By now, 2 girls, Nida and Cat, accompanied Adnan; both are my assistants on the Barcelona thing.

My campaign was very simple; my tagline is ‘Protest’. I will always end my speeches by saying, ‘if ever you disagree with anything at all, do not keep it to yourself, hand your protest to me. Give me your vote. Give me your Protest Vote’.

On the Election Day, 1680 students cast their protest vote. I witnessed the ballot counting until around seven thirty. By then, we all knew Kam Chong, Freed and Kamarul made it. And for me, I am always about 300 hundred to 400 hundred votes behind to squeeze to the last seat on the General Constituency. I left the counting centre without any intention of returning there for the final result.

Around midnight, my roommate, woke me up saying, Nida and Cat are waiting for me downstairs.

Nida and Cat took me for a drive. At Gurney Drive, they told me about the result. I came out 8. Most of the votes I have gotten are from the Chinese students. Kam Chong had done his part of the deal. Most of the Malay students did not voted me because I am perceived as too liberal. The male also did not vote me because of my playboya style. The also insisted that their girlfriend not to vote for me.

Later that night, Nida parked her Nissan 120Y overlooking the Penang Bridge. I was with my roommate at the back seat. Nida and Cat were in front.

Suddenly, out of the blue, I just thinking aloud, “This is the first time I taste defeat”. Without realising it had cause tears to flow over Cat’s cheek.

It wasn’t defeat after all, because 5 years later, I wedded Cat. Only to realised that Cat’s parents are hardcore Tengku Razaleigh supporter. They rejoin UMNO soon. I did the same in KL.

Soon, we are back as winner.

Pulang Paku Buah Keras, eh!

20 01 2008

Jadi saya harap pandai-pandailah masing-masing memainkan peranan.

Artikel “Trojan horses in the opposition ranks” tulisan Raja Petra juga tidak kurang panasnya. “Seeing is believing”.

Kenapa perlu kita mendakapi penderitaan dan kesengsaraan sedangkan “our country is blessed with rich resources and talented people”?

Cuma kita jangan jemu mencari jalan terbaik mengagendakan perubahan. Apa yang penting ialah keikhlasan dan kesabaran.

Thank You from Cucu Tokku

“Sheih. you made a sacrifice, your wife made a sacrifice to head up north to KB to follow your conviction and your dream. You are doing a great job for Husam. It is when people attack you that you know that what you do is impactful. The bullets are because they see the partnership between you and Husam is imperceptibly positive.

Old habits are hard to get rid off.

Mindsets of rabid religionists are harder and they “kill” their own in the process.

You and Husam must stay the course. You cannot allow the “enemies” to say….”there you are, put more pressure and they will disappear”. It is during times like this that you must regroup….you and Husam and people aligned to both of you…..strategise, honestly look at strength and weakness and never be afraid to put everything on the table.

What you wrote about the three opposition groups is the truth….and people ingrained with fixed mindsets do not like to hear the truth. If they admit  that they are wrong , their immature thinking translates into negativity that they are weak, and they cannot admit there are weaknesses in the opposition.

Sheih, win small battles….forget about winning the war….the time is not yet. You and especially Husam must win your early battles inside PAS. Until Husam takes over the mantle of Tok Guru, the battle rages. You and Husam must win the hearts of the PAS majority.

The chinese will pose no problem for Husam.

You and Husam need to create an implosing inside  PAS and this can only be achieved if you consistently, and incrementally win the internal battles.

Speed here is not important, as long as we move along and are not stagnant. Think about it.” end.

PKR’s Credibility Eroding, Says Nik Aziz

KOTA BAHARU, Jan 18 (Bernama) — Pas spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat who is Kelantan Menteri Besar, says Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is in “a state of disorder” and he believes that the PKR’s credibility is eroding.

He said Pas would not rely on a cooperation with the PKR but was more willing to have a straight contest against Barisan Nasional (BN).He was commenting, after delivering a weekly lecture at his party’s office here Friday, on a reported statement by the PKR recently that it would not contest in Kelantan in the coming general election.”We had the experience of cooperating with Parti Melayu Semangat 46 in the 1990s, then the pact crumbled and they returned to Umno,” he said. However, he said, the relationship between Pas and the PKR was still good and it would continue as long as the PKR still needed Pas as a partner.

BERNAMA

Prozac For Me

16 01 2008
The truth is, it is hard to be honest to yourself and it is harder to be honest to your friends. The worst is, if you are within the certain circle, it is almost impossible to be honest about your feeling on that certain matter without it being perceive as somebody’s else view or without hurting others.

My late father always reminded me to stay away from politics. When he said that, I know he meant was UMNO. Stay away from UMNO. And now I have stayed away from UMNO.

When I write what I wrote, it is always about what I feel and from my observation about the feelings of those laymen within my circle.

With this posting, you will find that the previous posting, Viagra for Opposition has been removed.

This shall be the last post by Kickdefella for now.

Drumming From a Distance

10 01 2008

As he continue his journey, he starting to hear the drum beats clearer and clearer with each step he takes. He turns the his loyalist and he catches him smiling delightfully.

The full moon has come, they sang as he looks more visible. The full moon has come, they continue to sing. As all eyes glued at him.

Children keep jumping to get a better ‘over the shoulder’ view of him. The women holding the glass of milk to celebrate the arrival. The men holding their sharp knives ready to prepare the feast for him.

Suddenly my eyes caught the reflection of the sun on the edge of one of the knife.

My mind rushed to the distance memory many months ago, when someone relates to him about her dream. A bad dream. Dozens on men surrounded him ready to give him the final blow. Is that dream becoming a reality today, right here, right now.

Is this the way they going to butcher his short but illustrious political career. Is he going to be another political victim just because he is doing the best he can this country that he love so much and to see all Malaysian get what they actually deserves.

As he walks, I gather my courage and try to keep with his pace. The knife becoming more visible and worrying me as I take each calculated steps. Will him, the man that his name itself brought the meaning of the tip of the sword will be able to withstand this final moment that should mark his last few steps towards the pinnacle of his career?

As fast as the lightning my hand grab his arm. He turns to me and whisper, “This is it my brother, this is it”, in the moment of confusion, I manage to stare at his face. Then I see, something that I haven’t seen before, He is in obvious pain. I turn away and realized that, blood already dropping from the knife.

I turn again and I can now see his is bleeding profusely. The strike must be so fast, that it came without any of us noticing it. Amid all the confusion, he grabs my shoulder, “be with me brother, be with me!”

“Be strong brother, be strong for me”, he continues.

“Dato’! Dato’!” I yell. “Praise the Al Mighty!” he said.

I stared at the ceiling, and realized, it was a bad dream. A very bad dream.

A Pile of Cow Dung

What a Pile of Cow Dung

Pak Lah is planning to call for election very soon. His rationale is, calling the election ASAP so he can continue to focus on developing the promising economy for the next five years.

“Promising Economy” may not be the word that you and me would obviously agreed on and we have a very good reason for it. The latest saga of blunder by the Pak Lah administration are very obvious. The Free Education for all Malaysians is an obvious PR disaster. At the end of the day, again, the Black Boy of Malaysian Politic, Khairy Jamaluddin need to reemerged from his hiding to come out with a stern statement  which warning all parents about their duty as parent and do not argue about the extra fees that they are asked to pay. With that, all media stopped with immediate effect from highlighting the issue anymore.

Pak Lah administration also needs to face an overlapping issue which is the cooking oil saga. Pak Lah denied that we are facing shortage of supply for the vital household product. But who actually care about what Pak Lah said. Everybody will only shut their mouth when the Black Boy speaks. Shafie Afdal has proved to us over and again that he is not a man made for the position he is currently holding. Over and again he was reduce to just rhetoric where facts and action matter most.

Soon, there will be no more roti Pak Lah and to Pak Lah’s advantage, no more roti Mahathir too (Roti Mahathir’s is the roti canai yang ada telur).

Blaming the shortage or what ever the Afdal fella wanna call it, to smuggling activities and blaming smuggling activities to government subsidies is like blaming the disastrous performance of England Football team because of the foreigners.  Smuggling activities and government subsidies are two things that lingers for as long as we can remember. At least what Pak Lah administration should do, is to hit the action gear and solve the problem that they have identified ages ago now. At least, the English Football Association, whom share the same level of sexual activity among their leadership with the Pak Lah administration knows when to use their real head, the one that actually holds the brain. To counter the disastrous England performance, which a lot of blame are fired at those foreigners, the English FA hired another foreigner to find the solution. And this foreigner hired another bunch of foreigners to help him.

Or perhaps, our police has opted to this method long before Fabio Copello ever thought that he is going to coach a nation that proudly admit as the origin of football. Perhaps Musa Hassan and his Minister in Charge believed that the only way to fight crime is to befriend the criminals and to put innocent people behind bars. The more innocent people behind bars, the more convicts can be release from prison in the context of making more space for future convicts. With this, more and more space are made available for innocent people while a lot to are neutralized so we do not need to spare tax payers money on them. When our streets are filed with criminals than innocent people, Pak Lah will face less complain so he can focus on developing the economy of the country. Police too will have less work due to less reports made by innocent people and with this, less tax payers money will be used to enhance the police force.

With all the surplus of money, it can then be use to pay Patrick Badawi to develop Terengganu and some can be given to the people of Kelantan so they can kick start the development of Kelantan as the Centre of Islamic Civilization. They can also build hundreds of mosque which Nik Aziz failed to build because what is the rationale of just having more mosque rather that having more people utilizing the mosque.

But again, Nik Aziz is not good in economics, Najib is very smart instead. By building more mosque, even one for every one kilometer will mean more money will be pump to generate the economy. So more qualified people will get the contract to build the mosque. Than after the mosque completed, more contract will be put out, and this time is the contract to filed the mosque with people.

Obvious now, for the love of this country, we need to keep Pak Lah in power. In closing my argument, I would like to say that I wholeheartedly protest the usage of all my posters to humiliate Pak Lah during the protest by 8 Malaysian youth in Putrajaya recently.

My posters which a lot of it showing the sleeping Prime Minister of Malaysia, were not made to humiliate the man, instead it were made to glorify him. Where else on earth can you find a Prime Minister who is so feel good about his people and country that he can afford to sleep event when his party were discussing about the future of the nation.

Keep Pak Lah in power!
