Stranger in Not So Strange Land
Posted on August 16, 2008
UMNO and Barisan Nasional found themselves as stranger in a not so strange land. Kickdefella was there to witness the historic moment that may mark the end of the beginning in the post PRU12.
About thirty thousands strong supporters of Pakatan Rakyat filled the Football field of the Institut Perguruan Tuanku Bainun in Permatang Pauh to show their solidarity and support for Anwar Ibrahim in the nomination day for Permatang Pauh. While only about five thousand supporter from Barisan Nasional who have made the journey from all parts of Malaysia. Some even said that Pakatan supporters who turn out may numbered to fifty thousands as the crowd swelled into the Bukit Kayu Hitam Highway as far as 3 kilometres.
The Barisan Nasional supporters are basically very quite and well discipline compared to their unruly behaviour in previous by election and most noted was the by election in Ijok in 2007. Barisan Nasional top guns led by Deputy President of UMNO, Najib Razak also have to take the barrage of jeers from Pakatan supporter as they walked a long and lonely journey towards the BN side of the field. A few Pakatan Supporters also offered some cash to the BN leaders who walk past them by waving few ringgits. While Ezam Mohd Noor may wish he has other occasion to choose rather then coming to the Nomination Centre.
Anwar Ibrahim the heroic figure of Permatang Pauh since his UMNO days, filed his nomination paper around 8.30 a.m.
While Barisan Nasional looks tame and with a lot of it’s component parties big gun shy away from attending the nomination day here, Pakatan Rakyat has full support from all the leaders from PKR, DAP and PAS. Nik Aziz Nik Mat leads PAS delegation and it includes almost all the notable names.
