Saifuddin Nasution Ismail

26 09 2007

Bro Saifuddin Nasution Ismail was best known for winning the Lunas State Assembly seat in a by election during the height of reformasi days.

Prior to my return to Kelantan, I had received few comments by a commenter using the nick, Saifuddin. I never expect that it was him. Later I came to know, he was consulted about bringing me back to Kelantan and he fully supported the idea.

Lunas was the days for many of us and so for Bro ‘Saif’ but, he has built a new legacy in Kelantan under the Tabung Amanah Tok Kenali.

Let’s hear his view on the Budget 2008.

Supermum Back on Machine (Update 24 Sept 07)

23 09 2007

24 Sept 2007

Supermum is less ‘responsive’ today. Doctor suspected she suffered another stroke. They are hoping to wean her off the machine and do a scan later in the day.

Original

Supermum back on life support machine at Universiti Malaya Specialist Centre in Petaling Jaya. She suffered internal bleeding and breathing difficulty. A tube is put through her nostril to suck out the blood from her stomach. When I visited her this morning, she is unconscious as a result of heavy sedation to stop her from struggling against the incubation.

Supermum arrived in Kuala Lumpur last week as we scheduled for her to meet Dr. Samuel Ong, Cardiologist at Subang Jaya Medical Centre. This action is agreed upon by all the siblings as we grew frustrated by the lack of proper medical attention from the Cardiologist in Kota Bharu.

When she was discharged from Kota Bharu Medical Centre few months ago, the hospital referred her case to a Cardiologist at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan. However, the latest date available for consultation with the Cardiologist in charge was January 9, 2008.

While waiting for the day to arrive, supermum health deteriorated fast causing her to be put under the machine for few days in Hospital Kota Bharu. As the facilities and proper procedure can only be done in HUSM Kubang Kerian, we chose to arrange for her to meet the Cardiologist there at HUSM’s Private Wing. The same Cardiologist which took more than 6 months to see her, we were told, is available within a week time if we are willing to pay at the Private Wing.

Sadly, when the day comes to meet the Cardiologist, as we arrived there, we were told that our appointment has been cancelled as the Cardiologist chose to go for a vacation. The cancelation was done without informing us despite our effort of leaving two mobile phone numbers to the person in charge in case they need to contact us. We were told that only HUSM has the facilities to attend to Cardiac problem in all over Kelantan.

Supermum was scheduled to meet Dr. Samuel Ong in SJMC this week but as she suffered another episode of breathing difficulties, my sister has to take her to the nearest hospital for immediate attention.

This morning, Dr. Wahab, Cardiologist on call at UM Specialist Centre informed us that her condition is stable but ‘anything can happen, anytime’. Dr. Wahab also informed us that he had to temporarily stop Supermum from continuing with her heart medication due to the internal bleeding in her stomach. Although this will expose her for a possibility of another heart infarction, the hospital was left with no other option.

Monsterball and Amin Iskandar of Black in Korea were there with me this afternoon. I was scheduled to meet Zorro and other bloggers friend later in the evening but have to cancel it as I need to be back in Kota Bharu immediately.

On the flight to KL this morning, I met YB Mohd Amar, whom his father I served as driver in the late 80’s. YB Mohd Amar, who is also the state exco, recited a lengthy prayer for her. We knew all along, she needs lots and lots of prayers and a sheer miracle to accompany the medical treatment.

Sheih on Sheih: Chinese Docu on YouTube soon

18 09 2007

Dato’ Husam has taken over my director’s chair! (above photo).

Hahaha, the above photo was taken during an interview session handled by Dato’ Husam in an undisclosed location. However, I doubt he will make a successful career out of it. He will definitely scared everybody away because no one would like to be interviewed by someone who are holding three books and ready to grill you to sweat.

Meanwhile, I have taken Buddy Beh’s advised and going to publish the documentary, Kelantan Sejahtera: The Chinese Community of Kelantan on YouTube once it is ready.

Sheih on Sheih: Chinese Documentary

17 09 2007

I thought of leaving the directing profession for sometimes now. However, it just lingers on me like the Aramis after shave lotion.

Two weeks ago I directed a documentary on the Chinese Community in Kelantan. The documentary is in Mandarin and directing something in the language that you are not familiar with really something that is very tough. I have stuck in the editing for a while now. Luckily my Director of Photography, Mr Ng Ah Tai is there with me helping me to understand what are being said by all those prominent Chinese personality that I have interviewed.

The 40 minutes documentary shall be my first video production in Kelantan. I hope to gather enough funds to print it into few thousands of DVD copies to be distributed all over the country. The documentary is purely a third party opinions without any voice over as I wanted the audience not to be disturbed by my personal opinions. Basically the whole documentary revolved around the opinions 5 individuals who are an ex reporter with Chinese Daily, The President of Chinese Chamber of Commerce, The President of Kelantan’s Lion Club, Building Developer and Cultural Activist. I also interviewed the Village Head of Kampong Cina and the Deputy Head of one of the Chinese Temple.

I hope the documentary will be an eye opener for Malaysian Chinese all over the country about life under the government controlled by Islamic Party of Malaysia.

This coming Thursday, I am invited to give a talk on Blog, Broadcasting and Internet Protocol Television in Perdana Hotel, Kota Bharu. Meanwhile, I am planning to organise few workshop myself after Ramadan. The workshop I am planning is on Photo Journalism and Photography, Story Telling and Video Production. Maybe, I can have some sponsor for the workshop. God Willing.

Bariah Ishak : Ramadhan Charity

12 09 2007

poor.jpg

Bariah Ishak, 36 years old Johorean had never stayed in Kelantan for a total of more than 10 days. However, for the last three months, she has made two brief visits and just four weeks ago, she left everything behind and called Kelantan her home.

The former senior producer with a private television station, has now becoming more Kelantanese than myself. Since three weeks ago, she had travelled more than 2,000km around Kelantan and scouts almost all the beaches, tourist spot and food outlets. She has a huge plan which she already started with holding preliminary talks with some hoteliers in Kota Bharu.

However, her immediate action is organising a charity work for the fasting month. Bariah has put her money on buying food, biscuits, flour, cooking oil, sugar and some other things to be given to the poor and needy in Kota Bharu. Bariah also has managed to get donations from individuals in Kuala Lumpur, mostly from her circle of friends which included some big movie star. I was told, to date, from her collection, it will be enough to share with 30 families.

What touch me most is her sincerity in sharing whatever she has, which I know, she not have much.

I hope by highlighting her ‘Ramadhan’s Charity’ in this blog, I could help increase the number of potential receivers and help to do a small part in putting some smiles to those poor and needy.

Donations from readers of this blog are most welcome. The donation is not necessary in cash. To all my beloved reader who wished to spread some smiles among the poor and needy, you are welcome to donate by doing online transaction to BARIAH BINTI ISHAK, RHB Bank 1-12170-0004782-8 and email her at bariahishak@yahoo.com.my.

Kickdefella surely will be covering the big day which is plan in two weeks time.

Time to Fight Fire with Fire?

10 09 2007

Photo from Buletinonline

Deputy Prime Minister of the half-past six government has this to say, “‘If we do not obey the law, then there will be anarchy in our country, with nobody respecting the law,’ he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

I ask this, “If we the people of Malaysia did not defend our democratic rights, what will happen to our country?”

What are our democratic rights?

Are we the bunch of aggressor because we screamed and yelled to police for not letting us to pass through the road we used every day in order to return to the place we call home?

Are we the rioters when we go after the intruders whom trying to dictate what we could do and what we could not do in our village when majority of the villagers are okay with what we are doing?

Are we the idiots when we behaving aggressively to defend ourselves against the intruders whom weapon themselves with water cannon and teargas and at the end of the day fired their guns and hit us with live bullets?

Is this our Malaysia?

I ask Abdullah Haji Ahmad, whose Malaysia is this?

Yesterday, two people were shot by a policeman with live bullet and now in grave condition.

One of them, I was informed are fighting for his live in PAS ruled Kelantan after he was transferred from Terengganu to seek the best medical treatment in Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kubang Kerian. Ironically, they can waste money on Monsoon Cup but not on medical.

As a Malaysian, I would anytime die for this country just like my father and many of those who fought to preserve the independence of this nation carried the same sentiment all the time with them.

But sadly, the policeman rather chooses to live and let the people who are trying to protect their democratic rights being the victim. The policeman is armed with gun and live bullet. The people are only armed with stone as reported by Reuters. Is there an evidence that all the people especially those who are unlucky were actually throwing stone at the police? Or, is it the people who are actually reacting in self defend? Is there an evidence that the villagers armed themselves with Molotov Cocktail or actually it is the undercover police personnel or UMNO goons are behind it to instigate those Malaysian?

On Saturday night, these are precisely what shrouded the place called Batu Burok.

What law should we obey if the Government blatantly disobey the law passed by the legislative? I was told Abdulah Haji Ahmad himself broke so many laws in the ECM-Libra scandal. I myself witness the Deputy Prime Minister abused his power when he himself used government helicopter to attend UMNO function. I myself instructed my crew to record how UMNO Kelantan broke the state entertainment enactment on the Merdeka Eve.

What law and whose law are we talking about. Is there a separate law that governed us? Are there separate enforcement style when it came to pig farmers and the opposition supporters? Is the guy that TV3 footages shown slamming the FRU with pig’s cage deserve to be handled with care and those whom throw their anger for not allowed to return to their house deserved to be shot?

I ask Abdullah Haji Ahmad, whose Malaysia is this?

And I ask all of you, is this our Malaysia?

My father fought for this country because he believed in preserving Malaysia as a democratic country. Many of his comrade had fall to ground and butchered with live bullets while fighting for democratic Malaysia.

And today, many of their sons, me included, without doubt are prepared to follow the footstep of our father, so our children can live in a democratic country.

If the authority wants to fight fire with fire, we are ready.

This is our Malaysia.

And we are Malaysian!
