Sheih on Sheih: Kelantan – The Engine Room for Malaysian Media Industry
29 03 2007When my movie, Persona Non Grata was screened nationwide last year, my biggest regret was that it never has it chance in Kelantan. My family and friends who eagerly followed my career from there will not be able to be part of the climax in my moviemaking career.
As ironic as the former Odeon in Kelantan became the UMNO building, it shall be equally weird to imagine that the land without big screen will be the engine room for Malaysia moviemaking business.
Dato’ Husam Musa could make all the different. With his commitment, nothing will be impossible.
Local producer are now facing uncertainty regarding the future of the Malaysian video and film industry. For the past few months, everybody has been very busy with new projects. They are biting more than they can chew. They have to do that because the inflation rate and the commission that they have to pay for the middle parties have eaten up to almost 40% of their overall cost.
The sudden surge in the amount of projects commissioned by various broadcasters especially RTM had something to do with the coming general election. Government and Media Prima are spending on whole lots of new TV program for the election. Hundred millions of ringgit was spent. Some 20% of it will definitely goes back to UMNO for their election machinery. Another 20% will goes directly to certain individuals who will privately finance certain candidate from UMNO.
Another factor of this sudden surge of projects is the feel good economic and the trillion-ringgit phenomenon. Nevertheless, some veteran producers are very worried of this. The dark memories of how the movie making business collapsed in 1997 still fresh and the effects are still very much felt. Prior to 1997, the producers are facing the sudden surged of projects by all stations. The competitions among the broadcasters had cause the price for finish products to balloon to a level that never being felt before. Producers, Artistes, Directors, Script Writers and Production Crews are making tons upon tons of money. Even the junior production crews are driving Honda in those days. Then came August 1997, everything collapses.
More that one hundred production houses closed down. More than ten producers went bankrupt while more than hundred creative people become jobless. All television stations put an immediate stop on buying new program. At the same time RTM discovered they have enough stock for three years. The good times prior to 1997 never make it sequel until few months ago.
While some new producers are laughing all the way to the bank, the season one is staring at the rerun of post 1997.
Producers now need an option.
Kelantan can now emerge as a good option in this flat world of Malaysia. Post Production services can now be outsourced to Kelantan via the visionary Husam Musa.
A good editor will cost the postproduction centre between RM3,000 to RM5,000 in Kuala Lumpur. Yet, the salary is not enough for them to live a decent live on single income in Kuala Lumpur. An editor in Kelantan will get much lower than that, nevertheless, they may afford to have their overseas holiday twice a year. Renting for a space is also tremendously lower in Kelantan than in Kuala Lumpur or even Kulim. With this, the cost for postproduction can be slashed up to half the price that cost them if they do their editing in Kuala Lumpur. For every 26-episodes of half-an-hour program, producer can save up to RM26,000 by doing their editing in Kelantan. Even their director need not be in Kelantan to supervise the editing. They can supervise it at any Starbucks or even at their house via broadband.
Although the doors to entertainment businesses to branch out to Kelantan were never closed, only recently, the same doors are being open wide enough for it to happen. Currently, few producers cum director have moved their business to Kelantan. Besides servicing the state agencies, they are also involved in coordination and consultation services.
The price to rent a big house for shooting in KL will cost the producer about RM500 to RM1000 for one-day shot. However, the same premises plus the rental of hotel for the production personnel will still cost much lower than that in Kelantan. To shoot a whole 90 minutes television movie in Kelantan, the cost will be about 40% lower than in Kuala Lumpur and 20% lower than to shoot it in Baling, Kedah. The cost can be reduced even more, if the equipments and crew are being supply directly by a rental house that choose to based themselves in Kota Bharu itself.
As for now, the state government of Kelantan is getting more committed in providing the training in Animation and Multimedia among the school leavers. Soon the state will start to train production personnel and scriptwriters as well. At the same time, the state government should focus in developing the infrastructures to make the whole outsourcing business a reality.
Establishing an institution focusing on the research, development and promotion of media exploitation and potential in Kelantan is a must. Kelantan should have its own creative and artistically made show reel worthy of screening at Cannes Film Festival, soon.
Klate Bulih!.

Sheih on Sheih: Supper with Saladin
28 03 2007Known as Saladin in the West, Salahudeen al Ayubi was born in 1138 in Tikrit. Saladin, a Kurdish warrior, became the Sultan of Egypt and known as a champion of Islam. Salahudeen became a legend in the East and West for his role in clearing the Crusaders from Jerusalem. His capture of Jerusalem, and the Muslim triumph that followed, gave him a remarkable place in the pages of history.
The rise of a new, unified Islamic state centered in Egypt was accomplished by the skilled leadership of Saladin.
The First Crusade captured Jerusalem in June 1099, amid a horrible massacre of the inhabitants. In 1174, Saladin began his expansion of his territory. In just twelve years, he conquered Damascus, Alleppo, and Iraq. Saladin united the efforts of Egypt and Baghdad, and preached to the Muslim world to rise in a Jihad, a Holy War, a counter crusade, of all the Muslims against the Christians. Gathering a large force of Muslims of various groups, called Saracens by the Christians, Saladin set out to attack the Christians. Saladin attacked the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem in 1187, and after three months of fighting, he gained control of the city (More)
Salahuddin Ayub, 44, hails from Pontian, Johor. He has been involved in politics for 25 years. He joined PAS in 1981 and quickly rose through the ranks. He is presently a member of parliament of Kubang Kerian, Kelantan. He is also the PAS Youth chief.
Salahuddin first received a diploma in Business studies from TAR College via a distance-learning programme (1983), while he was working as a bank officer. He later completed a Bachelor of Science in Human Development from University Putra Malaysia in 2000. (More)
Last night, I am lucky to have the chance to have my supper with the latter Salahuddin. YB Salahuddin arrived at my comfort zone within the boundary of my UMNO Branch accompanied with Blogger Penarik Beca and Bro Wan Joe of Kampung Laut.
As our supper was served by the roadside, I have to tolerate the interferences from almost everyone of the passerby who instantly recognised this warrior of Kubang Kerian.
Contrary to his predecessor in PAS, Salahuddin is a soft spoken, mild manner and cultured gentleman. Salahuddin preferred to be the one who asks the questions and listens to the answers rather than having questions thrown at him.
This is no more about the person who won the election on the sentiment of “Membangun Bersama Islam”. This is the person with the burning desired in regards of modernization. In fact, this reflects the new ideology of the ruling party that since 1990 governed the state of Kelantan. Alongside with the ever-popular Husam Musa, the Kelantanese are now staring at the paradigm shift in the ruling party.
About 100,000 of the electors for Kelantan are currently the metropolitans who lived in the big cities like Kuala Lumpur. This paradigm shift will reflect positively on these potential electors. These metropolitan Kelantanese are now suffering in those big cities due to the rigidness of economic policies by the federal government. When the day comes, they will have to decide whether to keep the current ruling party that will be under new and farsighted leadership or voted for uncertainties by electing the UMNO back to power.
The choice will be very clear. Either they vote for the new generation of leader that was generated upon the humbleness and moderation by the pragmatic Tok Guru Nik Aziz or to vote the party that is blitzkrieg with internal crisis and backstabbing histories.
The metropolitan Kelantanese will have to decide whether after the Election Day they are going to leave their parents to be governed by Husam Musa or to be ruled by Annuar Musa.
The metropolitan Kelantanese will have to decide whether to have the new government being supervised by the Spiritual Leader Tok Guru Nik Aziz or to be obedient to another Patrick Badawi.
If Husam Musa will be the next MB of Kelantan, we probably going to see Kelantan to be the outsource centre for multimedia works such as animation, but, if Annuar Musa to run Kelantan, we probably see RM300 million being splash on an International Wayang Kulit Cup organized by no other than another Kamaludin Abdullah’s cousin.
Do we want to leave the future of our parents in the hand of the Oxford breed Khairy Jamaluddin? In 1999, 70,000 metropolitan Kelantanese whom were transported back to their home state by UMNO-paid-buses decided to bite the hands that paid for their transports for the sake of the dignity of their land they proudly called negeri Cik Siti Wan Kembang.
Comes tomorrow we are going to see more that 100,000 metropolitans Kelantanese, again going to be transported back to their home state by what is already planned by Khairy Jamaluddin for the ballot day exodus.
Yes, winning Kelantan is top of the menu for the sleeping Prime Minister.
Winning Terengganu was a trophy for him (and his son, Kamaluddin). Winning Kelantan will make Abdullah Haji Ahmad immortals. By winning Kelantan, Malaysians will have to resign to the fact that, the most eligible bachelor of Malaysia will have the chance to run our country for as long as he desires.
By winning Kelantan, no one in UMNO will ever going to question the legitimacy of the man’s premiership.
By winning Kelantan, Abdullah can sleeps all the way for the coming 75 minutes of his football match as the captain of Malaysia and from time to time, he can snore out loud that he undid what Mahathir did in his premiership.
“Mahathir had lost Kelantan, and I, Abdullah Badawi win it back for UMNO”.
So, as for now, Husam Musa is standing tall by the corridor of power in Kelantan waiting for his turn to lead the country by the comfort of knowing my brother Salahuddin “Saladin al Ayubbi” will be there as his warlord. But when tomorrow comes, only the metropolitan Kelantanese are able to decide the destiny for these few good brothers.
I hardly finished my soup that I had for supper last night. Nevertheless, I am happy to see Salahuddin finishes his. At least it is a sign that he is not losing his appetite over what I put to him.
Will Kelantan going to be ruled by the same party again come next election? Salahuddin just smiled.
Will Husam be the next MB of Kelantan? Ooppss sorry bro, that was meant to be off the record.

Sheih on Sheih: Sheih Goes To Pulau Duyong Day 3
25 03 2007As I stood and stared at the sunset, my mind was still very much disturbed by the contents of the brown envelope. Am I being trapped? How am I going to rationalize what I have read? Have my Badak been compromised?
I am cursed by this so call intelligence’s report.
I remembered well the story about Hassan Al Banna and how he preached about God in those nightclubs in The Suez. That is the only way I can put logic into the action of my Badak going into the casino in Perth on the New Year’s Eve in 2006. Nevertheless, Hassan Al Banna was not searching for Al Ghazalli, or did he?
Why my pursue for this Al Ghazalli brought me to the casino? Why did my Badak get intoxicated while searching for Al Ghazalli? Was my Badak’s drink being spiked? This all has becoming too absurd to digest. However, I tried to remain strong and continued my search for Al Ghazalli.
The brown envelope also introduced me to another location which is known as Burswood. The brown envelope also includes a satellite image and a map of the area. By know I badly need someone in Perth to volunteer in helping me to search for Al Ghazalli. As you already knew, my Badak was intoxicated once and any Badak found intoxicated while on duty is as a good as dead. A ten-seconds-video of intoxicated Badak, post on the YouTube will bring disaster for the whole operation.
I am naming this operation as Da Ghazalli Code.
In pursuit for the elusive Al Ghazalli, we will need Malaysians to volunteer to follow my Badak whenever he is in Perth. Preferably our volunteer will be Malaysians who are currently residing in Perth.
We need to know my Badak’s movement in Perth. We need to know where he sleeps and where he goes for his golf goofing sessions. If he ventures into the casino, we need to get a copy of the close circuit television recording.
My Badak may be a double agent. He is armed and dangerous. In order to be effective, arm yourself with reliable video recording devices, all the time.
If you choose to accept this mission, I wish you all the best and good luck!

Sheih on Sheih : Sheih Goes To Pulau Duyong day 2 (Updated)
23 03 2007I am still on the mission to search for Al Ghazalli. My undercover fella who is one of the self-practice-doctor in Pulau Duyong briefed me on the where about of Al Ghazalli.
Below are the excerpts of the transcript.
Undercover Fella From the infos we gathered, Al Ghazalli is no longer in Pulau Duyong. Why don’t you cari Michelle Yeoh saje….
Sheih Rather leave her to Clack Gable. But where is Al Ghazalli?
Undercover Fella They say, if you wanna find him, you better follow the Badak LAH
Sheih You mean he is in Gong Badak?
Undercover Fella No… follow the Badak…. Not gi Gong Badak, mung ni pekak badak LAH?
Sheih So this Badak… if it is not the name of a location, then he must a man… cannot be the real badak right?
Undercover Fella No worries, one of my own Badak already following the Badak LAH. Look at this satellite image. This is Perth, Australia. We believed our Al Ghazalli is somewhere there.
Sheih Any sighting of him there?
Undercover Fella Nope, but the Badak LAH always there la. Mung ni, tiap kali Badak tu said I have lots of work to do… dia teruih gi Perth la.
Sheih So this Badak traveled to Perth to find Al Ghazalli?
Undercover Fella He Airbus-ed his way to Perth….
Sheih So which part of Perth is where this Badak lives?
Undercover Fella Mung ni, your question should be, which part of Perth is where the Badak sleeps LAH. This Badak is real kaki tidur LAH, Sheih. Mung tahu, tengah jogging pung dia tidur LAH. By the way, this satellite image shows us an area call Swan River in Perth.
Sheih Okay, let us see the next slide.
Undercover Fella Ooops, the next slide is For Your Eyes Only. Even me are not allowed to view it.
So my Undercover Fella left the room. I am still staring at the brown envelope. Should I open it now?

Sheih on Sheih: Another Email to Kang Chai Kee
20 03 2007Dearest Chai Kee,
Attached with this email is a copy of a letter by Che Din Bin Jusoh from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (source). Trust me, such letter never will come from any members of Kelantan State Government. In Kelantan, you can say what ever you want; whenever you think it is necessary to say so.
In your latest email to me, you asked about Anbalagan. How can I forget my buddy Anba. He is a good man. Anba has successfully runs an Indian Curry House in Pasir Mas.
Do you remember Liew Kim Peng? Yes the tauke. He used to run a pig farm in Kampong Beruk in Kelantan. I was told by Latif; Kim Peng now runs a chain of Non-Halal Restaurant in Kota Bharu, Rantau Panjang and Pasir Puteh. He even served Asahi and Heineken there.
Anba and Kim Peng had flourish under the current state government.
Recently I met with Ong Kim Pang. He had left his construction business in KL and move back to Kelantan. He is currently one of the contractors working on the redevelopment of Kota Bharu. He took me for a ride in his brand new Range Rover, which he bought after successfully relocated his business in Kelantan. While having Nasi Daun Pisang at Anba’s restaurant, Ong proudly open the water tap and said, “Look, the water is flowing again in Kelantan”. Ong then insist on me to look closely at the quality of the water that flow from the tap. Yes Chai Kee. The water is real and it is crystal clear.
After the General Election 2004, I met Tengku Razaleigh and proposed to him a project I called Kelantan dot TV. I wanted to register the address in Tuvalu Island. Ku Li agreed to be on board with the project. He however proposed that I met Tok Pa to get the blessing. As Ku Li told me, Tok Pa shall be the MB of Kelantan, if anybody from the current government to ever cross over. Ku Li tried over and again to arrange for me to meet Tok Pa. Tok Pa seems not bother to meet me.
Then Ku Li tried to arrange for me to meet Annuar Musa. It has been two years since Annuar Musa said; meet me next week when I am in KL. The next week never arrived though.
Kelantan dot TV is a project to cater for the information flow from Kelantan to the world. It will be an online television that runs streaming visual of Kelantan through the net. By clicking to Kelantan dot TV, from anywhere in the world, you can see the all the videos of the beautiful location and tourist spots in Kelantan. Kelantan dot TV will also provide the cheapest marketing and promotion solution to all Kelantan’s products, budget hotels, resorts and hotels.
The best thing is, with my twelve years experiences in the film and broadcasting company, I basically can handle the contents for this Kelantan dot TV single handedly.
That was actually what made Kelantan dot TV not appealing to those two jokers. It is because it will be uncensored webcast source that provide the truth about Kelantan. Besides, it is not a profit-oriented project that means nobody will make any money directly from it.
Dearest Chai Kee,
Yesterday evening, I rang my mum. I told her, I was offered to work on what I know best, in Kelantan. I could hear her voice is full of joy. I just wish I am there to see her radiant face. I know she is now the happiest mum on earth. I hope god will provide me with ample time to prove to her that I can be his super son. Chai Kee, super mum deserved a super son, don’t you agree?
I told her, if the current ruling party retains the state government after the upcoming election, I will bring my kids and wife back to Kelantan and settle down there, at least until I received my doctorate degree. That was a double joy for her.
I hope god will answer her prayer and my prayer and I hope your prayer too shall be mine.

Sheih on Sheih: Email to Kang Chai Kee
19 03 2007My dearest Chai Kee,
I am so glad to hear from you again. It looks as if fate clearly not on our side. I was in Taipei in early December, if only I knew then that you were working there, we could have plan something.
Chai Kee, do you believe in destiny?
Delighted that you came across my blog when you googled for Husam Musa. I guessed the speculation on The Straits Times in regards of a snap election soon in Kelantan has turn up the heat.

Source : Jeff Ooi’s Screenshots
On Husam
Yes, Husam was there during the funeral of the late Buddhist Chief High Priest of Malaysia and Singapore, Venerable Dr K. Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Maha Thera.
Yes, Husam is a cool dude as you put it.
Yes, Husam is Nik Aziz protégé.
Yes, the talk-about in town is Husam going to be the next Menteri Besar of Kelantan or at least, that is what the Kelantanese wanted.
Will Husam be appointed as Menteri Besar before state election; I am not able to comment on that. Will the ruling party in Kelantan appointed Husam as MB and called for a snap election? Well it is possible and why not. If they think, it will give them the advantage, than we are staring at the possibility of the state assembly election in Kelantan anytime from now.
Will Husam be a good MB? Well, we will never know until he actually becomes the MB. But one thing for sure, it is not hard to be better than the former BN government of Kelantan, which was, lead by the clown Mat Yaacob the Panglima Layu.
If you compare Husam with Pak Lah, my goodness, Husam is way ahead. Husam holds a first degree in economics, where Pak Lah failed to even qualify as a candidate in that discipline. I never came across any photo of Husam sleeping in public while Pak Lah, obviously the champion.
Husam is always on time for a meeting where Pak Lah is a disaster when it comes to punctuality.
So, if Pak Lah can lead Malaysia, why cannot Husam lead Kelantan?
Will Kelantanese accept Husam as their MB? I cannot see a reason why we, as the Kelantanese cannot accept him. Having him is already considered godsend. Having him leading us shall be a bonus.
On UMNO and the State Ruling Party
Can the current ruling party win the next state election? Well, someone in 1990 screamed out loud that it would take 20 years before BN can afford to take over Kelantan back. 20 years will due in 2010.
Nevertheless, my argument is, why should we return the Kelantan state government to BN? Does BN Kelantan deserve it? Does Annuar Musa or even
Tok Pa deserve it? This two merely a bunch of jokers and do we want them to clown around the state like Mat Yaacob or Husein Serama? Didn’t we have enough?
The only bright leader that comes out of Kelantan’s UMNO is Zaid Ibrahim. But as usual, they themselves already butchered him long time ago.
Has the current state government being misunderstood? YES!
Has the current state government succeed in developing the state? YES and if you compared the current leadership with the Mat Yaacob regime before 1990, it is without doubt, the people of Kelantan had made a right choice since 1990.
Should Kelantanese retain the current ruling party in the next election? If Husam is the one who is going to lead us, I did not see the reason why we should not let the same party to rule us again.
Dearest Chai Kee,
For many years now, we the Kelantanese had been condemned for not electing UMNO into office. I just wish they can be truthful to us and openly let us know why we should actually vote for UMNO. Why?
UMNO had proven a failure in Kelantan. If this jokers care to remember, it is not the Kelantanese who voted UMNO out but it is they themselves in 1990 and it is also they themselves whom in 2004 created their own internal problem and as a result, they missed their best chance to return to power.
And from today, for every step that Khairy Jamaluddin takes on Kelantan’s soil, will only mean UMNO will lose at least one hundred votes. For that, it means from the moment he steps out of the airplane and steps into the car, UMNO will already lose one state seat. On top of that, if Annuar Musa is going to stand as candidate, rest assured, UMNO will be history in the state assembly.
Dropping Zaid Ibrahim and Ku Li from Parliament Kota Bharu and Gua Musang will only, mean BN is reducing their majority in the Parliament.
Let Kelantanese decide what best for them. The decision is not for those in Putrajaya.
According to some sources, 5 million voters yet to register as electors. Out of that, only 10 percents are UMNO members. This mean if 4,500,000 unregistered electors do registered on time for the election; UMNO will be in grave danger.
Dearest Chai Kee,
If you could, please register as electors before 31st of this month. This will entitled you to vote on the next election if it is being held by the end of this year.

Big Dog on Sheih
18 03 2007After we got to know each other, Sheih told me he was inspired by this and started to dabble on his own. The same Minister also was his first object of expression.
He later published his first of many highly talked about creative political-satire poster which depicts much talked about Malaysian politicians such as the Prime Minister, former Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Minister of Internal Security and the “son-in-law”. His latest ‘target’ is the Minister of Tourism, with his foot-in-the-mouth against the women bloggers, which drew a lot of flak from the Malaysian blogosphere cyber-citizens, home and abroad (Read the posting)
Thanks Big Dog! Woof Woof!!!

Notorious Bru – The Rectum Slicer (updated)
17 03 2007
Rocky’s Bru is now a millionaire. Congratulations, and not just to Rocky but to each and everyone who support the blogosphere.
When NSTP and the gang of four sued Rocky and Jeff, we know it is our biggest challenged so far and we clearly understood the game they played.
What the government, gang of four and even we ourselves did not anticipate was the fact that the court case proved to be the catalyst in uniting us.
Although I may never be brave enough to share what actually happened during that surreal week, it is enough for me to say that Rocky remained very calmed through out the week. Rocky constantly in contact with me during that week to lend his supports and motivates me although he was the one who was staring at the uncertain destiny.
Rocky ardently talked about unity and what it can do to us, bloggers and commenters.
Two week before he was sued, I met Rocky for the first time, illustrating to him what happened during my disappearance act in December. He made me believe that I should continue to do what I do best. He made me feel that I was needed in the blogosphere.
From time to time, he cheered us fellow bloggers by diverting the traffic from his site to our blog.
So my fellow bloggers and commenters, as we celebrating the one million hits on Rocky’s site, let us not ask ourselves what can Rocky contribute to us, but what can we contribute to Rocky. Why not we start by pursuing Rocky’s dream of having an alliance for all bloggers, a reality.
This alliance is not virtual. This alliance is for real!
p/s Thanks to Kata Tak Nak for the info on The Rectum Slicer. Further info on the sword click here and here.
