Malaysian Walk With US – L2R – ShanghaiStephen, Marina, Mulah (partly hidden), Jeff, Rocky, Sheih, Nuraina and Zorro

 pressie_20070130-hfy.jpg

Being Sheih is not easy. My great great grandpa was traced back to Bukhara
Desert and please I beg you not to ask me where it is. My arwah father used to show me the map but I always took it for granted that I always can refer to him in regards of the geography.

Somewhere along the line, one Syed by the name of Karim sailed from India to
Penang with his Indian wife. Syed Karim AlBukhary later settled down in Klang. He is the father of my grandpa, whom later took a job in the Kota Bharu General Hospital where he soon became a legend. He was known as Abiq Razak. Fierce but wise.

The trishaw peddlers in Kota Bharu always shared with me their encounter with Abiq Razak who was a dresser. They said, if you meet Abiq Razak, you can be cured just by hearing his lecture on how to live a hygienic life. To be honest, I knew my grandpa well, he will scream at you and your fever will run away.

When Abiq Razak moves to Kota Bharu, my father is still very young. As Abiq Razak was a good man, everybody would love to send his or her children to stay at his house. One lucky kid, was my mother.

She suffered a tragic life. Her mother and her father died 12 hours apart due to typhoid. The authority burned down her house. My mother and her siblings had to be separated. Two were sent to remote part known as Kuala Krai (this is in the late forties) and two other to an island.

As my mother recalled, my father would always ask my mother to wash his shirt and said, when you grow up, I shall marry you. One day my father disappeared after an argument with my grandpa. Only for him to return two years later as a handsome young man in military uniform. My dad kept his promise. He married my mother and took her almost everywhere in Malaya and Malaysia. My father served the military for almost thirty years. Life was hard for both of them.

Early in their marriage, my father had to fight the Emergency. Towards the end of their marriage, my father struggling fighting the Insurgency.

When I was two years old, my father was posted to South Vietnam as the Military Attaché. I had to admit, there were many flying saucers in our house. I used to watch the saucers flying and our dinner ended hitting the ceiling. My mum cried a lot. We cried a lot. My dad cried a lot too, just that he did his crying deep inside.

Life is difficult for my dad because he is a man who would stand his ground. The military top men did not like it. Once he and his platoon was ambushed in Rajang River. Half of his platoon was mutilated by the Northern Kalimantan bandits. The ambushed was meant for my father but only for him to become a spectator because his longboat took a detour to check on an intelligent report of a sighting at nearby village.

Arrived at the scene, moments later, my father took a chase. He went after the bandits although he was ordered to stay behind. He was the Commanding Officer of The First Renjer not a spectator.

However, the military believed that he serves the country better by being a spectator rather than being a trophy for the bandit. After that incident, he was ordered back to MINDEF.

My father, even until his last breath, remains a fighter not an ass kisser.

At the end of his military career, he was left fighting for his pride. When others get to enjoy the snow in Europe, he was sent to enjoy the war-torn Saigon. His Camelot crumbled so as ours, and soon we ceased to become a family anymore.

The five years old me, sat on my mum’s lap when my father sign the divorce paper. This was his word, you can have my pension, and you can have the kids, just give me my life.

I did not cry, only many years later I realized the effect of the incident. Then I cried a lot. Not having a father in 1970’s was a big deal. My schoolmate teased me because my report book signed by my mum. They laughed at me because only my mum attended our sports  day. They took every opportunity to make me think that I am not normal just because they have their dad and I did not.

I grew up determined not to be the father I hardly knew.

The last ten years of his life, my father was left fighting to love me. Unfortunately, I am a father myself and struggling to make a living. I find no time for him. He would call me every alternate day. Some time I answered it, most of the time, I just ignore it.

When I answer it, this shall be our routine conversation,

“Hi Azidi, how are you” “I’m fine Bah, thank you”. Silence. “Apa cerita Azidi?” “Tak da cerita Bah”. Silence. “How are the kids doing?” “They are fine Bah, thank you”. Silence. “How is my lovely daughter in law?” “Lovely as ever Bah, thank you”. “Azidi, why don’t you bring them over for makan-makan this weekend?” “Sorry Bah, we already had other plan, thank you”.

After more silent, my father will always said this “Any way, drop by anytime okay” “I shall Bah” “Okay Azidi, I love you” “Me too Bah, bye”.

When I narrated this incident in my class, the whole class started to tears.

My father suffered a heart attack when I was watching Suzuka Formula One Grand Prix in 2001. He died two weeks before Suzuka Formula One Grand Prix, two seasons later.

I bathed him and performed the last rites.

Almost a year later, while scrolling the phone numbers in my mobile, I came across his number. I do not know for what reason I actually called that number. Nevertheless, that day, I surely did. How I wished he is still alive and I will give him the chance to be my father.

Damn!

Did I say how determined am I, not wanting to be him?

Today, as I walked with Bro Rocky, Jeff, Sis Marina, Nuraina, Bro Monsterball, Mulah, Sang Kelembai, David Beckham, Zorro, Shanghai Stephens, Kuda Ranggi and many more, the memory of a father, I ceased to have struck me.

As I watched Rocky and Nuraina working on their laptop in Austen Chase, I asked myself, am I a spectator or am I a fighter? I know for sure, I am not an ass kisser.

Pak Lah and Khairy will think I serve my country better by being a spectator. I wonder what my father would think if ever I have him on the other line.

“Hi Bah, how are you?” “I’m fine Azidi… where have you been?” “I was away Bah, forgive me, but now I’m back, and I love you” “I know Azidi, I know, I love you too” “Bah, may I ask you for an advice?”

I know for sure, he who chooses to live his life as a fighter will have a good piece of advice for me.

Bloggers subject to same rules

25 Jan 2007
Anis Ibrahim

KUALA LUMPUR: Bloggers are liable for defamation — just as in other forms of communication, lawyers and other experts said.

Kuala Lumpur Bar chairman Lim Chee Wee said statements on the Internet were simply writings in a different medium.
“You can call them blogs, online forums, websites, they’re all subject to the same defamation laws if offending statements are published,” he said.Lim agreed with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who said in
London on Tuesday that although bloggers would not be restricted, they could be subject to defamation, sedition and other laws.
“They cannot hide or take advantage of a situation and do something against the law,” he said.“I also welcome the prime minister’s statement that blogs will not be censored,” Lim said.Law expert Prof Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi said there was no doubt the rules of defamation applied to blogs and Internet forums.“The definition of speech covers every form of communication in whatever form, written or symbolic. There is no doubt that bloggers are subject to the same rules.”Asked whether defamation laws in the West were more advanced than
Malaysia’s, Shad Saleem said, “In fact we tend to give people much more freedom to defame because we have no privacy laws unlike most Western countries.”
Lawyer Datuk Dominic Puthucheary, who has represented a major local publication against defamation, said, “Our laws on defamation should be governed by Article 10 of the Federal Constitution which provides for freedom of speech, unless limited by Parliament.”There is no law restricting people on the content of their blogs, he said. But “if something is either spoken or written in a permanent form, it is liable for defamation according to basic common law”.That was his advice to a politician on a statement that had been taken from the Internet and broadcast.Puthucheary also drew a line between private and public individuals: “A defamatory statement against a private person is actionable,” he said.“When it comes to public interest issues and the conduct of public officers, it is not defamatory in some jurisdictions unless there is reckless disregard for the truth. But it is still an open question here.”

The former Member of Parliament said the legislature should draft laws to deal with defamation in the “new forms of communication”.

Lawyer Nahendran Navaratnam agreed that legislative changes were needed “to ensure that protection is given both to bloggers and those who are the subject of discussion on the Internet”.

National Union of Journalists president Norila Mohd Daud said it was logical that defamation laws would apply to blog postings.

“Right now our laws do not cover blogs or online forums, but I think it’s simple logic that a defamatory statement can reach the public via any medium, by newspapers, magazines or the Internet.”

Norila also agreed that bloggers had to exercise caution on their websites.

“It is true that bloggers have to be responsible. You can express your opinions but we have to see it from the point of view of the people who are named,” she said.

Sheih on Sheih: The Hindu Priest and the Temple of Doom

27 01 2007

The water is rising fast.

Every sane human being knows this phenomenon is not on the reverse. It rises every second. The authority managed to evacuate everybody including all the livestock. People are advice to take only what is important to them and the most important thing at this moment is only their life.

A small 200hp motorboat reach a temple where they found the water is chest deep. They saw a priest praying at the stairs of the temple. The captain of the search and rescue team shouted to the priest.

“Samy! Samy! Time to go. Stop praying, the water is rising fast. We need to evacuate you now!”

Taking a pause from his prayer, Samy smile towards the young Captain, “My son, you go. You go and safe others”.

“No Samy, we have evacuated everybody including all the donkeys as well. We come for you, Samy, let’s go”.

Samy still smiling, “My son, then go, safe yourself. I shall take care of God’s house and God will take care of me”.

With heavy feeling, the captain left. He knows if he stays there even a second longer, his 200hp motorboat will capsize.

As speculated, the water continues to rise like nothing the villagers have witnessed before.

In a distance, we hear the engine sound of a yacht. Slowly we see a 40-footer yacht closing to the temple. Three quarter of the temple is now below water level. On the roof of the temple, we see the priest deep in his prayers.

The priest prayer come to an abrupt end causes by the loud screaming voice from a loudhailer. We see the young captain holding the loudhailer and this is what he has to say.

“Samy, man of God, please I beg you to let us evacuate you. Please Samy. I even borrowed the Cobra Sultan from Pak Lah to safe you!”

The ever-smiling priest humbly recognised the beauty of the yacht. Nevertheless, only for him to say this, “My son, I am the man of God. Do not worry about me. Say hello to Pak Lah and let him know how honoured I am to be rescued by his Cobra Sultan”.

“However my son, Cobra Sultan or not, I am here to stay. I shall take care of God’s house, and God will take care of me…. Go my son. Safe the Cobra Sultan from all the debris. Go my son”.

Knowing the unfriendly phenomenon bringing along all the debris that can damage the Cobra Sultan and cost millions of taxpayer’s money to repay it, the Captain, broken-hearted, leave the scene.

Wave after the other, the raging flood shows no sign of subsiding. The whole temple is now below the water level.  Our Priest adamantly ties himself at the pinnacle of the temple, which is only two feet above the water level.

In a distance, we can hear a loud roar. At  first, the Priest thought it is the sound of the final blow. Nevertheless, as he looks closely, he saw an Airbus Corporate Jet is flying low encircling what is use to be the great temple. A rope is thrown from the Airbus.

This is followed by the familiar voices of the young captain.

“Samy, I come to rescue you. Pak Lah has allowed me to use his new Air Force One. I bring the premier decree to safe you from this unapologetic phenomenon. So please Samy, give me no more excuses”.

Even the ever-smiling Samy find it difficult to smile anymore. His muscle has frozen. His shivering but adamant as ever.

“My son, I am going nowhere. I shall continue to take care of God’s house and God will continue taking care of me, go my son, and waste no more taxpayer’s money on me. I shall live as long as God wants me to live!”

As the water keeps rising, the Priest has nowhere to climb anymore. Therefore, the priest meets the dead-end.

Nevertheless, our Priest goes where all priests before him had gone. In Heaven, the priest shrugged with disbelieves and demands to meet the God.

A meeting soon being arranged for the humble priest to meet his creator. After exchanging greeting, priest wasted no time in condemning the God.

“God, what is this? I have taken care of your house even when the worst happened but why you never take care of me?”

God smiles at the priest.

“My priest, I have sent 200hp motorboat for you. However, you refused. Thinking that I might have bruised your ego, I sent Cobra Sultan to take you to safety. Yet you still refused. Don’t you know how much taxpayer’s money the country has to waste to persuade you to take refuge? Yet, most merciful I am, I sent for the new executive jet for you. Damn! You still refused. What more you want from me?”

Well, with that we end the story about our loyal priest.

Please do not take this out of context. This is only a joke. YES, it’s a JOKE. Nothing has to do neither with The New Shit Team nor with Batu Talam by-election. Enjoy your weekend.

Sheih on Sheih: My Baby You

26 01 2007

I heard my friend going to sing Fatwa Pujangga tonight, I’m waiting for the invitation. Perhaps I could test my pitching by singing this lovely song by Marc Anthony. Nope. This song is not dedicated to Cherie (Hi! Nice skirt), but this important song is for Abdullah Haji Ahmad, for his appetite to continue as the Prime Minister. You sure one hungry fella. No question bout your appetite!

As I look into your eyes I see all the reasons why
my life’s worth a thousand skies

You’re the simplest love i’ve known
and the purest one i’ll own
know you’ll never be alone

My baby you
are the reason I could fly
and
’cause of you
I don’t have to wonder why

Baby you
there’s no more just getting by
you’re the reason I feel so alive

Though these words I say are true
they still fail to capture you
as mere words can only do

How do I explain that smile
and how it turns my world around
keeping my feet on the ground

I will soothe you if you fall
i’ll be right there if you call

you’re my greatest love of all

All my friends, what are you waiting for? Get the leave form signed and Walk With Us, Tuesday 30th Jan 07, Wisma Denmark.

The NSTP’s application for an inter-parte injunction against blogger  Ahiruddin Attan, also known as Rocky, was set aside as Judge Hishamuddin Yunus decided this morning to hear the application by Rocky’s lawyers to strike out NSTP’s libel suit first.

ahiruddin-copy.jpg

click here to send message to Rocky

Concern was raised by NSTP’s lawyers Cecil Abraham, Sunil Abraham and Rishwant Singh that some readers’ comments should be removed on the grounds that they are sub judice, The defendants will reply in a hearing fixed for Monday Jan 29 whether to contest the assertion. The comments under scrutiny are found in Rocky’s Bru  (CIJ report on today’s hearing). More.

On behalf of Bloggers United, I would like to thanks all for the support shown to Rocky during today’s proceeding. A special thanks to Emy, the real Perwaris Perjuangan Yang Belum Selesai.

Please post your support and word of encouragement to our superhero Rocky, only at Bloggers United Official page.

Meanwhile in an attempt to challenge my faith in the freedom of expression, few patrons to this blog posted profanities. They maliciously targeted my posting MUHAMMAD WAS HIS LAST WORD. What they did not realise, I am able to track their IP. Nevertheless, my apology to my readers. My email is also under attack by the same party.

The manner things being conduct by this party clearly shown that an organize movement are trying to disunite us. My advice to all, to neither engage them nor reply to their posting. Please ignore them as we are ignoring NSTP. We are Malaysian. Let us stick as Malaysian! Do not let any party take that away from us.

Sheih on Sheih: You’re Beautiful (Not you Lah, Kali!)

24 01 2007

While having my roti telur this morning, I saw a young woman whom unfortunately had today’s NST on her lap. I took a glance at his male companion. He kind of had that intimidating characteristic. Nevertheless, I have to make the move.

I walk towards her and we exchange greetings. Below is the transcript of this morning’s dialogue.

Sheih

I see there is NST on your lap.

Male friend

Is there a problem, (pointing towards a table full of newspaper) you can buy one there.

Sheih

Actually yes.

Woman

Huh? Problem.

Sheih

Yes, you see, my two buddies, Rocky and Jeff kena saman by NST, something like that.

Male friend

So?

Sheih

Kena saman is okay, but why saman is the issued here.

Male friend

What is that got to do with us?

Sheih

Mister, your lady friend is such an angel, she is not just pretty but her looks tell me she is very intelligent. I trust she is actually a very intelligent person, which is the reason you befriend her. She will understand if I tell her that beauty and brain are the best gift for mankind. My two buddies, R&J also have both. Is it wrong for them to share it in their blogs with readers? But because they have both do not mean those who don’t have it should feel takut and saman. In my opinion, if those people whom saman my friend got what my friends have (The beauty and the brain), they will explain to their readers and my friend’s followers the truth, At least counter it by writing it back. It is still a free world, just that you have to pay for almost everything. However, freedom of expressing one’s views and freedom of countering those views should remain free. Looks like NST does not believe in that anymore. So, how can us that are beautiful and got brain would pay to buy NST. Buying NST means we are going to finance them to make sure those freedom is not free anymore.

Woman

How can newspaper saman people? I thought they been fighting for freedom or whatever it is…

Sheih

Yes it is true. That is why I think the saman tak make sense. I think the saman is politically motivated. The saman is to incite fear amongst bloggers. The saman is actually to stop other from expressing their view towards the government. Worst, the saman is actually to make sure the truth will not prevail.

Woman

Are you a blogger.

Sheih

Well I more of a sniper actually.

Woman

Yes, that is what the G men call you guys right.

Sheih

Well, as far as I remember, it is still a free world, which mean you are free to pay for NST or you have the choice to buy other newspaper.

Woman

A******h would you change this NST to Star!.

As her male friend walks  away, I whispered to her,

Sheih

I see your male friend eating roti kosong,

Woman

Ha ha ha… no worry, I demand him to eat Roti Mahathir from now on.

I left her after jotting my blog’s address on a piece of tissue. Well I now she will pay my blog a visit today.

I dedicate the song below for you, Cherie, my friends and my cyber buddies. You’re Beautiful!!!

My life is brilliant.

My love is pure.

I saw an angel.

Of that I’m sure.

She smiled at me on the subway.

She was with another man.

But I won’t lose no sleep on that,

‘Cause I’ve got a plan.

You’re beautiful.

You’re beautiful.

You’re beautiful, it’s true.

I saw your face in a crowded place,

And I don’t know what to do,

‘Cause I’ll never be with you.

Yeah, she caught my eye,

As I walked on by.

She could see from my face that I was,*****ng high,

And I don’t think that I’ll see her again,

But we shared a moment that will last till the end.

You’re beautiful.

You’re beautiful.

You’re beautiful,

it’s true.I saw your face in a crowded place,

And I don’t know what to do,

‘Cause I’ll never be with you.

You’re beautiful.

You’re beautiful.

You’re beautiful, it’s true.

There must be an angel with a smile on her face,

When she thought up that I should be with you.

But it’s time to face the truth,

I will never be with you.
